A GREAT HELM in 14th Century style, formed of five iron plates joined vertically at the sides and overlapping a domed pate-plate, the lower edge turned inwards over a wire and curving down to a blunt point at front and rear, narrow horizontal slightly flanged sight divided by a central strip extending as a tongue over the centre of the brow, all held by domed iron rivets, low medial ridge at front and rear, numerous small breaths pierced on the right of the lower front plate, cruciform slots for a safety-chain, numerous pairs of holes for lining, and at the rear a riveted oval buckle below a flat angular hook for suspension (patinated throughout)

This is apparently based on the well-known helm of Sir Richard Pembridge from Hereford Cathedral, now in the Royal Museums of Scotland
