A BRASS-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOL with brass barrel slightly belled at the muzzle and engraved 'Grantham' on the flat at the breech, engraved tang, signed border engraved brass lock with safety-catch in front of the cock (top jaw and screw replaced), figured walnut full stock (butt damaged and repaired) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, full mounts (trigger-guard and rear ramrod-pipe replaced, side-plate repaired) including spurred pommel engraved with rococo ornament and with grotesque mask cap, oval escutcheon engraved with owner's initials, and later ramrod, by Newton, Grantham, Tower private proof marks, circa 1775
