The artist painter W. Otto commissioned Bruno Paul, Bernhard Pankok and Riemerschmid each to design a room in his house in Bremen in 1898.
This rare chair is not represented in any known museum collection, nor has it ever been exhibited, and until now has been known only from the contemporary photograph published in Innen Dekoration, (reproduced right) showing the living room in Herr Otto's house. It represents one of Riemerschmid's most elegant designs for salon furniture and is distinctive for its imposing proportions.
