Mme Gournand was a close friend of Chareau and his wife. Her apartment was entirely furnished by Chareau in the 1930s, and the greater part of the original furnishings, of which this chair formed a part, are still in the possession of the family.
See: Vellay and Frampton, p. 312, another example illustrated.
