Lot Essay

The rationale behind the design of Lovegrove's 'Equestrian' chair was to make a floating structure which also celebrated the high quality of traditional British saddle making. The seat cushions were specially produced for Lovegrove by Michael Martin, the head saddler at Giddons, London. This pair of chairs is from an unique set of eight, which were commissioned by Knoll International U.S.A., and first shown at the 55th Salon des Artistes Décorateurs at the Grand Palais, Paris, in March 1990.
