The central tablet depicting Venus being chosen by the shepherd Pari, is inspired by Ovid's, Loves the Gods, and derives from W. Ryland's engraving of a painting by Angelica Kauffman published in 1778. The foliate capitals of the pilasters derive from R. Adam, Ruins of the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, 1764.
