Lot Essay

Edmund Culpeper, London, fl. 1686, optician and mathematical instrument maker, is recorded working at Moorfields and the Royal Exchange. He died in 1737.

The Coat of Arms represents the marriage on 9th November 1727, at Somerset House Chapel, of Thomas Barrett of Lee Priory, and Elizabeth, daughter and sole heir of Peter de la Pierre (or Peters) of the Black Friers (sic), Canterbury

She was the second of his four wives and died only sixteen months later, on 8th March 1729
