Lot Essay

INDENT It is believed that only three examples of the milled coinage Threefarthings exist, this specimen and two others in the British Museum, vide Borden, D.G. and Brown, I.D., "The milled coinage of Elizabeth I", British Numismatics Journal, Vol. 53, 1983, p. 119. Borden also speculates (S.C.M.B., July 1979, p. 216) that this piece was pierced and plugged at the mint to demonetize it.
