A VIENNESE BIEDERMEIER POLYCHROME, BLACK AND GILT-JAPANNED WRITING-TABLE
Early 19th Century
The shaped rectangular top with a central panel of floral and fruiting sprays with birds, butterflies and further insects, within a border with floral sprays and foliate trails, above a long frieze drawer decorated with two chimerae suspending a pearl swag and issuing acanthus scrolls with eagles and flowers, flanked by musical trophies, the sides centred by a lyre and acanthus scrolls and the reverse with two swans centred by a fruiting basket and issuing foliate scrolls, on a tressle-end support with scrolling top and base centred by a fan shape and terminating in flowerheads and bell finials, joined by a ballustre stretcher and on a rectangular plinth, the top with glass top glued to the surface, minor redecorations
