AN EMPIRE ORMOLU AND BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK
The circular enamelled dial with Roman chapters inscribed 'JOHN MEEK/LONDON', within a stiff-leaf rim and an inverted pear-shaped case with a winged mask to the base flanked by anthemion and with two entwined torches to the top, the sides with two foliate scrolling handles issuing from lion's masks and terminating in a foliate dish above a cherub's head, the part-reeded waisted foot with flowerhead-filled trellis rim on a square stepped base with lotus-leaf band and on pad feet, with winder and later pendulum, the movement replaced in England in the early 19th Century, the reverse of the bell with various inscriptions including 'W. Dickinson/1941', 'Cleaned July 1820' and 'Nov 1826', the reverse of the neck with typed sticker 'F & M/205/29'
