A GERMAN BURR-WALNUT AND PARQUETRY BUREAU-ON-STAND
Mid-18th Century
The shaped moulded overhanging stepped cornice above a central concave-fronted part-glazed door enclosing a later shelf and to the back a star-motif inlaid panel, flanked to each side by a shaped scrolling pediment above five shaped drawers with inlaid strapwork panels, the bureau section with moulded edge above the slanting writing-slope inlaid with strapwork decoration, enclosing a panel-inlaid writing-surface and ten variously-sized drawers, above a moulded and shaped inverted breakfront edge with three conformingly inlaid frieze-drawers, the stand with six octagonal tapering legs headed by a giltwood capital and joined by a later shaped stretcher, on later octagonal bun feet, one glass pane cracked, restorations, the back panel of the top previously the door and the glazed door later
