Woven in wools and silks, depicting a lady reclining under a tree with a basket of flowers and a staff and with a small boy on her left, in the background houses and more trees, within a border of a column wrapped with flowers, with unidentified weaver's mark 'M.R.I.B' , sewn down at the edges

Lot Essay

The central figures of this tapestry appear in a larger tapestry of a landscape view whose design is attributed to Claude-Joseph Vernet (d. 1789), which was sold anonymously, Liber, Castor, Paris, 31 May 1995, lot 295.
