Lot Essay

A Sicilian bedside commode of nearly identical shape as well as a further bedside commode with identical inset marble top and brass-banding between the drawers are in the collection of Giuseppe Barbaro, Palermo. Both also display similarly pierced brass mounts, a type which was used throughout southern Italy (E. Baccheschi, Mobili Italiani del Meridione, Milan, 1966, p. 90).
