British Solomon Islands
U5 1907 (15 Mar.) U5 addressed by Charles Woodford, the Resident Commissioner, to Colonel Burns at Sydney, bearing 1907 2d. tied by clear Tulagi, in combination with New South Wales 2½d. tied by Sydney c.d.s. for 28 March; the U5 with light vertical crease clear of adhesives and with some minor discoloration which lightly affects the 2d. A very rare combination cover and one of only a very few recorded. Photo
Note: Until the recognition of British Solomon Island adhesives by the Colonial Office and the U.P.U. from 7 September there was doubt as to whether they had franking power other than to the Australian Post Office. Postal Officials at Sydney sometimes added New South Wales adhesives as appropriate for the destination.
