A Staffordshire creamware bird-whistle
Circa 1770
Splashed in green and brown glazes, the crested bird astride a conical tree-stump to the left, with incised wing and tail feathers, its neck with an aperture and the whistle mouthpiece applied to its back (extended firing crack around base of mouthpiece, minute chips to edge of base)
4 7/8in. (12.5cm.) high
