Lot Essay

This photograph is one of three taken in the Park of Culture and Rest of photographer, Evgeniia Lemberg. The title given by Rodchenko emphasises the Leica camera, which would be otherwise unidentifiable in the print. The Leica, introduced in 1925, was the first commercially successful 35mm camera. As such it revolutionised working methods for documentary photographers, and was significant in the rise of modern photojournalism. Rodchenko himself used a Leica from 1928.
