A GERMAN PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE with twist octagonal sighted barrel signed at the breech, countersunk at the muzzle and rifled with five grooves (fore-sight incomplete), case-hardened breech and tang engraved with scrolling foliage (peep-sight missing), flat lock engraved with foliage (hammer loose), figured walnut half-stock (fore-end cracked), chequered grip, the butt carved with a stag pursued by a hound amid foliage in low relief behind the cheek-piece, iron mounts engraved with scrolling foliage including butt-plate with aperture for a support, and spurred indented trigger-guard (set trigger incomplete), and horn fore-end cap (ramrod and one sling mount missing), by Jacob Pilartz of Neuss, circa 1850
