A FINE AND RARE GERMAN FOUR-BARREL FLINTLOCK FOWLING-PIECE with blued barrels, the upper pair signed and dated in gold on the rib and with silver fore-sight within a gilt sunburst, and gilt rosettes, thunderbolts and interlaced vines at the breech, and gold vents, the lower pair with gilt panels of interlaced vines, baskets of flowers and interlaced laurel foliage, and gold vents, long blued and gilt barrel-tang secured by three screws and with a silver panel on each side, polished bevelled left-and-right-hand locks with blued top jaws and screw-heads, and fitted with sliding pans for the upper barrels, figured birchwood full stock inlaid with silver wire lines enclosing engraved silver rosettes on the fore-stock, and on the grip with silver wire chequerwork studded with silver stars, the butt-plate with a line of small and large silver stars, engraved silver mounts including skeleton butt-plate, and trigger-guard with silver-inlaid pierced spurred birchwood tang, silver ramrod-pipes, blued triggers, and whalebone ramrod (cracked), the cheek-piece inlaid with a gold S within a silver laurel wreath, in fine condition throughout, with nearly all original finish (mainspring loose in left lock), by Pierre Greverath à Dyck, dated 1797 33½in. barrels [E.422, S.32]
