A GERMAN OR DUTCH FLINTLOCK FOWLING-PIECE with two-stage barrel, silver fore-sight in the form of a crouching dog, the breech engraved with scrolling foliage and with sighting flat terminating in chiselled scrolls and foliage, on the left side the dagger mark of Essen (Neue Støckel 4917), engraved tang, signed rounded lock with moulded border (tail chipped), figured walnut full stock (butt wormed) carved in relief with scrollwork terminating in monster-heads at the ramrod-pipes, barrel tang and cheek-piece, iron mounts chiselled in relief with scrolls, and with a profile bust on the trigger-guard and pierced escutcheon, pierced scrolling side-plate involving monster-heads, a demi-figure, and a mounted horseman, butt-plate with long tang above and beneath, boldly turned ramrod-pipes, and original iron-tipped ramrod, by Jan Rösmol, circa 1685
