A GERMAN FLINTLOCK FOWLING-PIECE with two-stage barrel, the fore-sight in the form of a lizard, the breech with sighting flat interrupted by the standing figure of Fame chiselled in relief, and terminating in chiselled foliage and scrolls with monster-heads, on the left side the dagger mark of Essen (Neue Støckel 4917), signed rounded lock highly chiselled in relief, the tail with crowned vacant escutcheon between palm fronds, moulded figured walnut full stock finely carved in low relief with scrollwork and monster-heads at the ramrod-pipes and barrel tang, and below the butt, iron mounts chiselled in relief with foliage, pierced side-plate involving an angel firing a cannon, the bulbous butt-plate with chiselled profile bust in high relief and scolled tang in the form of a merman, pierced and chiselled vacant escutcheon, turned bulbous ramrod-pipes, and original iron-tipped ramrod, by Michael Bus, Essen, circa 1700
