A GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE with swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, flat bevelled lock with fluted tail and swing-out safety-steel, internally retained cock, moulded figured walnut full stock (fore-stock cracked and chipped), the butt with cheek-piece carved with scrolls and foliage, and with lightly carved patch-box cover, iron mounts including pointed butt-plate and spurred trigger-guard each with fleur-de-lys finial, set trigger, and moulded horn fore-end cap (ramrod missing), early 18th Century, probably by Johann Valentin Heibach
