Lot Essay

The initials on the blade stand for Wilhelm Graf Zu Salm and refer to Altgraf Wilhelm (1668-1721) who succeeded to the title in 1684. It was presumably remounted for Altgraf (later Prince) Josef (1773-1861), who succeeded in 1775 and had close connections with France
