A GERMAN COMBINED HUNTING SWORD AND FLINTLOCK PISTOL with straight single-edged blade (incomplete) with two narrow fullers, and etched and gilt at the forte with symmetrical strapwork and stylised foliage enclosing a boar on one side, and a stag on the other, the pistol with two-stage gilt-brass barrel decorated with punched scrolls on the breech, gilt-brass hilt with down-curved shell cast and chased with a trophy of arms in relief against a punched ground and with pierced extension protecting the cock and steel, the action chased with scrollwork and foliage against a punched ground, and the pommel with a grotesque mask, faceted knuckle-guard with a standing halberdier in relief on one side and boar-head extension at the top, and natural staghorn grips, retaining much original gilding throughout, circa 1720-30
