A Sèvres biscuit figure of 'L'Amitié au Coeur'
Circa 1764, incised script B and 3 to edge of base
Modelled as a loosely-draped figure of a woman by an ivy-clad tree-trunk, a wreath in her hair, holding a heart in her outstretched hands, a mask trampled underfoot, on a circular base (damages to flower-wreath and to base foliage, chip to great toe, slight staining)

Lot Essay

First modelled by Falconet in 1764.

The subject of 'L'Amitié' or 'L'Amitié au Coeur' was a popular one. Madame de Pompadour was herself modelled in the rôle by Falconet in 1755. An example of that model was in the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection, lot 120.
