Registration No. KVS 453
Chassis No. AAW828621
Engine No. 28845

Austin Motor Company announced their new A40 saloon in 1958 as a successor to the A35, utilising most of the mechanical components of that model. The overhead valve four cylinder A Series engine of 948cc mated to a four-speed gearbox provided 80mph performance coupled to 35mpg economy. It was the attractive two door Pininfarina styled bodywork that caused such interest designed to include the desirable features of an estate car in what was still essentially a small family saloon. This was the first of a series of BMC models to bear the stamp of the famous Italian styling house.
In 1961 a Mark II version was introduced with a revised front grille and an increase in wheelbase of 3½ inches providing more rear compartment space. The interior had restyled door and seat trims and a revised fascia layout.
This 1962 Mark II A40 is in very good overall condition and is believed to have had only three previous owners, and with a little attention to detail will provide an excellent example of the much sought after Austin A40.
