Lot Essay

Francis Plowden was gazetted Cornet in the 15th Light Dragoons without purchase from 27 May 1795. He was transferred to the 5th Regiment of Foot on promotion to Lieutenant by purchase from 11 October 1798. His battalion fought under the Duke of York in Holland in 1799. He died in October 1800.

This miniature is most probably a memento of his first commission.
