The above cross is closely related to an emerald suite presented to the treasury at Carmona in 1680 and described as 'Spanish American'. Cf. M.J. Serrano, La Virgen de Gracia de Carmona (1990), no.16. Cf. also Christie's 27 May, 1990 for a group of emerald jewellery from the Spanish treasure ship Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas which sank in 1656
