INDENTThe 'Je Ne Sais Quoi' Club was founded by the Prince of Wales and met at the Star and Garter Tavern in Pall Mall. The above ring corresponds to that described in Notes and Queries, 5th Series, Vol.I, p.453: 'gold, the bezel bearing on dark blue enamel the three feathers badge and motto 'Ich Dien' of the Prince of Wales while round the hoop 'Je Ne Sais Quoi' is inscribed'. The Prince is recorded as buying a further ring with this motto from Thomas Gray in 1789 and it presumably denoted membership of his club. We are grateful to Diana Scarisbrick for this information

INDENTJe Ne Sais Quoi is defined in the Collins English Dictionary as 'an indefinable quality, especially of personality'
