A STAFFORDSHIRE SLIPWARE PRESS-MOULDED DATED 'MAN WITHIN THE CUMPAS' CHARGER BY SAMUEL MALKIN, the cream slip ground moulded with the figure of a gentleman holding a baton, enriched in chocolate and brown slips, standing beneath a compass flanked by two medallions inscribed in raised script, to the left Keep with:in Cumpas:and you:shall be:sure 1726 and to the right To auoyd:many troubles:which others: indure 1726 and with the initials S M above, the lower part with trailing stylised tulip-sprays, within a pie-crust rim (broken across and restored in several places and a section of restoration at 4 o'clock, chips and some flaking to rim), 1726
