AN INDIAN CAST AND CHASED BRASS INKWELL with rounded body, narrow neck, flat mouth with downturned rim and short flaring foot, two attachment loops on the shoulders, the body with a band of cusped cartouches linked by flowerheads containing six different animals in very lively renderings interlaced with scrolling leafy vine, a band of palmettes above and below, the rim with leaf motifs, probably 17th century (verY lightly rubbed) later copper base, 2 1/8in. (5.2cm.) high, and AN INDIAN CAST AND CHASED SHAPED BRONZE BASE possibly for use as a pen-case and inkwell stand, the long rectangular rear section with central extruded circular member, shaped panels filling the spandrels, the sides of the main sections deeply worked with flowerheads and leafy vine, the minor panels with chevron motifs, probably 18th century (traces of attachments at ends and below), 6 5/8in.
