AN OTTOMAN PARCEL GILT AND NIELLO SILVER TRAVELLING SCRIBE'S SET comprising three parallel tubes, each of octagonal section, the faces with engraved gilt flowering vine alternating with similar motifs in niello, cast and chased floral terminals, removable at one end and with associated chains and seal fob, the associated inkwell of lobed octagonal barrel form, each face with a lobed engraved floral medallion within a similar niello surround divided by beaded panels, floral bands above and below, the cover with similar scrolling vine around the hidden lid, heavily moulded hinges and inset knop, the underside stamped with the tughra of Sultan Mahmud I (1730-1754)
