comprising a silk long sleeved coat painted in elegant black thuluth with open talismanic interlaced inscriptions on the sleeves and breast, a sash with embroidered ends, a Kirman embroidered panel, and a collection of letters and jottings in various scripts including nasta'liq, naskh and shikasteh

Lot Essay

Muhammad 'Ali Nori, known as Mirza, was the son of Mirza Huseyn 'Ali, known as Abdu'l Baha, the leader of the Behai faith and son of its founder. Born in 1862, he followed his father's religion, and was well-known for his mastery of various styles of calligraphy. The items in this lot were kept in the hands of a follower, Dr. Naseh, in Teheran, until the his death.
