Engraved additional title, section title printed in red, title vignette, portrait of Cardinal Mazarin, 2pp. of text, 3 leaves with letterpress within an engraved surround, 42 plates (additional portrait mounted), 14 folding, nine illustrations (including 4 portraits), 27 head- or tail-pieces, 7 initials (some browning and light dampstaining, three of the folding plates torn). Contemporary French tan morocco gilt, covers with triple-fillet border, spine in seven compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering-piece in one, the others gilt, g.e. (extremities rubbed, covers discoloured and somewhat scuffed). Provenance: Darminy (signature); Henry Atherton (inscription).
