A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY of the first Cambridge printing of the New Testament in Greek, the text reprinted from the first Elzevir edition of 1624 using matrices borrowed from Oxford. The inscription reads "I desire that This Greek Testament given me by ye Revd Mr David Jennings be restored to him when I dye. July 5th 1729 I.Watts". "Watts deservedly merits a very high place among English hymn-writers. His hymns reflect his strong and serene faith and did much to make hymn-singing a powerful devotional force, esp.[ecially] in Nonconformity.":(Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, 1957). D.Jennings was the co-editor of a 6 volume edition of Watts' Works published in 1753. STC 2796; DMH 4678.
