INDENTLieutenant Alexander Forsyth Parr (1786-1856), entered the Royal Navy on 20.10.1796 at the age of ten, as 3rd Class Volunteer in H.M.S. Swiftsure, of which ship his father was at that time Gunner; promoted Midshipman at the age of eleven, and was present at the Battle of the Nile 1 August 1798; assisted in expelling the French from Naples, and at the Siege of Fort St Elmo; aided at the debarkation of troops in Aboukir Bay, March 1801; transferred to H.M.S. Penelope, and was paid off in May 1802; served in H.M.S. Wasp, June 1803 until July 1805; joined H.M.S. Agamemnon, October 1805, and took part in the action off Cape Trafalgar 21 October; after the action was directed to H.M.S. Colossus to ascertain the state of that ship which the Agamemnon subsequently took in tow, an operation which was successfully carried out by Mr Parr under hazardous circumstances; took part in the action off St. Domingo, 6 February 1806 (promoted Lieutenant for his services, 2 April); present at the capture of the corvette La Lutinae, and took part in the expedition to Copenhagen the following year; aided in the navigation of the Danish ship Princess Caroline to England as second in command, with the 95th Regiment on board; as First Lieutenant of Agamemnon was wrecked in the Rio de la Plata, 20 June 1809; was appointed to H.M.S. Argo, 26 December 1809, and was subsequently employed as First Lieutenant, on convoy duty until November 1813; appointed Senior, H.M.S. Alpheus 18 May 1814; on half-pay 1831, Lieutenant Parr died at Haslar Hospital in 1856
