INDENTSergeant Sydney Belding, M.M. of Burnham Market, Norfolk, won the Military Medal with No. 7 Motor Machine Gun Battery probably as a result of his distinguished conduct at the Battle of Loos, 27 September 1915; he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and flew as an Observer/Gunner in the Bristol Fighters of 22 Squadron. Sergeant Belding was killed in action 15 April 1918 - the letter from Cadet Arthur Whitehouse addressed to "My Dear Miss King" states inter alia "Now as regards poor Syd all I can tell you that he was killed on that date. He was flying back to the aerodrome after finishing his patrol when their machine was hit by accident by Portuguese artillery and they crashed into the Forest de Nieppe, N.E. of Aire. He had already destroyed three Huns..."
