INDENT Second Lieutenant John Henry Gaythorne Nevill, born 1884, educated at Ampleforth College, Yorkshire, became a member of the Stock Exchange 1911; was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Grenadier Guards, Special Reserve August 1914 and proceeded to the Front in December; he was killed during a German attack on the 2nd Battalion's trenches within a few hours of arriving in the line on 24 December. The enemy had mined within ten yards of the Guards' trenches, and attacked in great force (Stock Exchange Memorial and Grenadier Guards History Vol. 1 refers)
