INDENTSecond Lieutenant Edwin Thaxton White of Great Crosby, Lancashire educated at Nelson School, Wigton, joined the Liverpool Pals, 1st City Bn. 1 September, 1914 and after training proceeded with them to France November, 1915; was wounded during the Battle of the Somme 12 October, 1916 when the 1st Pals took heavy losses - evacuated to Fishponds hospital, Bristol. He entered the Cadet School at Kinmel Park, Rhyl, was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the King's Own and returned to France, 29 July, 1917
2nd Lieutenant White was killed on his first day in action as an Officer at the Battle of Menin Road Ridge, 20 September, 1917 during the opening of the Great British Offensive, East of Ypres - he was shot in the right side and died immediately
