INDENTSecond Lieutenant Francis Allan Ballinger, born 1893 Gloucester, educated at the Crypt Grammar School and Pembroke College, Oxford, he joined the Public School Battalion from the O.T.C. on the outbreak of war and was commissioned into the Special Reserve King's Liverpool Regiment August 1914; went to France March 1915 attached 1st Bn. as Machine Gun Officer and served at Neauve Chapelle and in the Second Battle of Ypres. He was reported 'wounded and missing, believed killed' on the night of 21/22 May 1915 after a night attack on the German postion at Bois de Biez, north of La Bassee "....last seen badly wounded in the chest and unconscious within a few yards of the enemy wire..." Second Lieutenant Hamilton Ainsworth Bardswell of Liverpool attested 25 as Private, King's Liverpool Regiment 8 May 1916; Second Lieutenant, 10th Bn. 25 October 1916. He was killed in action at Cambrai 30 November 1917 and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial.
