INDENT6977 Private Walter Wilson, born Leyton, Essex was killed in action, Neuve Chapelle, 10 March, 1915 and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, "... The bombers of the Devons under Lt. Wright, got round the obstacles and cleared two hundred yards of trench..."

10375 Private John Gillard, born Salcombe, was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Loos, 25 September, 1915. In the first 24 hours fighting from dawn 25th to dawn 26th the 8/Devons lost all 19 officers and 600 men out of 750.

Second Lieutenant Charles Frederick King, born 1883, educated Gillingham Grammar School, joined the Royal Navy July, 1900 and served fourteen years as an Accountant Officer before joining the Gloucestershire Regiment (Captain), 1914; resigned, 1916 and enlisted in the Coldstream Guards and served with them from March, 1916 - Promoted in the field for 'courage in the trenches'; gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Devon Regiment July, 1917 and was attached to the 6th Bn. King's Liverpools when he was killed in action in the Battle of Menin Road Ridge, 20 September 1917 (Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, Vol. IV refers)
