Lot Essay

INDENT 853 Private John Warr was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July, 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. The Regimental History reports on this day - "... an attack on Beaumont Hamel with disastrous results - 7 officers killed and 14 wounded - 156 ORs killed, 298 wounded and 11 missing."
