INDENT 1239 Private (Drummer) John Arthur Wood, born 1894, Manchester, joined the Cheshire Grey's as a Big Drummer and volunteered for foreign service on the outbreak of war, August 1914. He was killed in action at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, 15 August 1915 - originally reported as wounded and missing (Ruvigny's Roll of Honour refers)
2322 Private Walter Pearson, born St. Mary's Nantwich was killed in action, Gallipoli, 8 September, 1915. He died very quickly after being shot through the chest whilst on patrol.
Lieutenant Irving Gledsdale of Liverpool, an Old Lioban, joined the 10th Liverpool Scottish, 1912 and was commissioned early in the War into the Cheshire Regiment. He went to France, May 1916 and was wounded with the 1st Bn. on 3 September - The Regimental History states "... Lieutenant Gledsdale especially distinguished himself by his organisation of the defence of the Farm against counter-attack ..." After hospitalisation in England, he returned to France May, 1917 and on 13 July he was employed on a reconnoitring patrol, preparing for a raid the following night, when the enemy put up a heavy barrage in which the small patrol was caught - Gledsdale was killed by shellfire (Liverpool's Scroll of Fame refers)
