INDENTSecond Lieutenant Francis Henry Stanley Hawksworth, born 1894 at Basingstoke, educated at St. Bee's and Queen's College Oxford, was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Border Regiment August, 1914. Attached to the 2nd Welch Regiment - he served in France and was killed in action at La Bassee, 25 January 1915. The Germans broke through the line and into the village of Givenchy 'Hawksworth gallantly came to reinforce' - such are the words of his C.O. - 'and as he ran across a terrible zone of fire, he was struck by a bullet and killed instantly'. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
