Captain Austin Basil Clarke, M.C., born 1892, graduated M.B., 1915, was commissioned in the Royal Army Medical Corps and proceeded to France as the Medical Officer of the Queen Victoria Rifles and remained with the Bn. until he was killed in action on the Bapaume-Cambrai Road. The Queen Victoria Rifles History states that he was recommended for a Bar to his Military Cross and many thought him deserving of the Victoria Cross
