Lot Essay

INDENTJames Friend, born in Dublin, enlisted in the 17th Lancers in 1848 or 1849; was slightly wounded during the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava (London Gazette 16.9.1854, and Muster Roll); he acted as Medical Orderly and died 2.12.1859 at Mazapore, India.

Although a four clasp medal was offered for sale 1901, the Medal Roll does not confirm the clasp for Alma.
