The roundel-centred pierced vase-shaped splat and overall shape of these chairs reflect closely the stamped work of Robert Prior of Uxbridge, the second generation of a dynasty started in the second half of the 18th Century by his father John Prior. Stamped variants exist with both the wheel and the roundel splats including those illustrated in Dr. B. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1990, p.76, fig. TV148 and p.77, fig. TV149
