Lot Essay

The design of this table with its 'antique' ebony enrichments relates to a table with baluster-capped, ringed and tapering columnar legs illustrated in John Loudon, Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833. Given the different sizes of these tables it is likely that they were intended for different rooms in a single bedroom and dressing room apartment.
