The first railroad in Japan, whose construction the Japanese had to rely on British technicians, was opened between Yokohama and Tokyo in 1872. This triptych bears a censor seal of 1871. Kuniteru has made a triptych also of the same subject in 1870 which is thought to be based on a British model illustrated in a Western book.
