AN UNUSUALLY MOUNTED WAKIZASHI, the blade shobuzukuri with itame-mokume hada and midare hamon, ubu nakago with one mekugi-ana, inscribed Fujiwara Kunihiro, 16th/17th century, 41.1cm. long; the painted wood hilt and scabbard carved with a dragon's head, its eyes inlaid in shell, and in low relief with a tiger, tortoise, ho-o and dragon, and panels of Chinese characters, with a metal ring sageo attachment, a copper kozuka depicting a tiger, inscribed Tou, and an iron tsuba; a tanto containing a ken blade, unsigned, 15th/16th century, 22.9cm. long; with a kiri wood hilt and scabbard carved with thunderclouds and inlaid with a dragon in gilt bronze, the fuchi dated Kanen yonen (1627); another tanto with a ken blade, signed Sakao Yoshitoki (of Mino, circa 1661), 27.9cm. long, with black lacquer hilt and scabbard (sageo attachment missing); and a small tanto in metal mounting, the blade inscribed Yoshinori (4)
