AN IMARI SHALLOW BOWL decorated in iron-red, black, green and aubergine enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with a large central roundel containing a four-masted Dutch ship bordered by two shaped square panels each containing similar ships and two faux coats-of-arms divided by pairs of standing Dutchmen in various poses, smoking and holding uchiwa on a ground of diaper design, the narrow rim with stylised leaves, the exterior with two shaped square panels each containing a ship and two circular panels with a Dutchman with a Dutch boy divided by peony flowerheads, the base with a ju character, Meiji period (1868-1912)
